Getting your hair looking as healthy as possible for your special day requires a few months of preparation. From treatments, to using the right styling tools, to a proper haircare routine - it's never too soon to get started. Three months is the minimum hair timeline to work with to ensure your hair health and cut and colour come together perfectly for your big day.
Three months might feel a long way away but it's
the perfect time to start scheduling appointments to make
sure you're on track with your bridal haircare timeline.
These include: booking a wedding day hair trial,
booking a cut and colour and planning for in salon treatments.
• Changing your hair colour for your wedding can mean
multiple salon visits if it's a big departure from the colour
you have now. Ideally this process would begin at
least six months out from your wedding day.
• Cutting your hair in a new style is also best done
as early as possible in case you need to make
a change before your wedding day.
Maybe you already know how you want your
wedding day hair to look. Wedding inspiration is
everywhere, and it's never too early to start planning.
Saving photos of the styles you like from social media
and websites to show your stylist will help you when
planning for your special day.
Closer to the big day you will need to have a hair trial
to ensure your chosen hairstyle works well with your veil,
dress and accessories, and having a photo reference
makes things so much easier.
Ask for advice on specific haircare recommendations
for your hair type. There are products that work on volume and frizz, and some that give the hair a denser appearance -
your stylist can recommend what works for you.
Make masking your new best friend and treat your hair
to deep nourishment once a week. Your stylist is the best
person to advise on the type of hair mask that
will work for your hair.
Now is the time for your trial with your hair stylist. Bring your
veil and your inspirational images. Bring a picture of you in
your dress if available. Be sure to tell your stylist the theme
or style of the wedding if there is one. At your trial,
ask your stylist to take pictures of every angle of the finished look.
This ensures you are 100% happy with the final result.
TOP TIP: Book your trial early in the day,
so that you can see how long the style lasts in your hair
Make an appointment for a trim and colour, so split ends
are removed and your hair colour looks fresh. With two weeks
to go, this gives your hair time to settle.
The one-week countdown is on.
Follow your regular routine and don't introduce anything that might damage or disrupt your hair – so no new haircare and
no overstyling. Do one last mask this week but apply it
at least two days before your wedding day.
Double-check all your wedding day timings
with your stylist and anyone else
who is getting their hair done.
If you are planning to have your stylist onsite, make sure your stylist has access to electrical sockets and a mirror to keep to the schedule. Set up a table for brushes, tools, bobby pins
and hairspray to avoid unnecessary stress.
Make sure your veil and any accessories are steamed and hung or laid out ready to go.
Ease pre-ceremony stress by arriving before your scheduled time.
This extra time allows you to relax, enjoy the moment, and ensures a smooth
and unhurried start to your special day.
Transform your hair into a french twist, bouffant, chignon, a traditional braid, curled wedding hair,
or a custom-creation you and your stylist design.
When selecting a hairstyle, consider the event’s nature and location. For formal occasions such as weddings or galas, sophisticated hairstyles like chignons or intricate braids may be appropriate. For casual events like birthday parties or outdoor picnics, loose waves or a simple ponytail often strike the right balance between stylish and relaxed.
Extensions can serve as a fantastic solution for achieving your desired hairstyle without waiting for the long-term commitment of growing your hair. They allow you to add length and volume or even experiment with colours.
Accessories can elevate your hairstyle, adding a touch of glamour and personality. Always consider your outfit and the occasion when selecting accessories. Options like jeweled hairpins, elegant headbands, or delicate tiaras can create an enchanting vibe or simply pinning back strands with chic accessories can add a refined touch to your chosen style.
Styling your hair for special occasions should be an enjoyable experience. Allow yourself enough time to experiment, prepare, and indulge in glamour. As the big day approaches, ensure you keep your hair healthy, hydrated, and ready for styling. Regularly conditioning and treating your hair will help it look its best. Be sure to enjoy yourself and showcase your style, making lasting memories on special occasions.
